STARSHIP FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER IN PARNELL
Artists and celebrities strut and crow in Parnell!
Studio Carolina Izzo undertook the restoration of the Organ Pipes from St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School, Merivale, Christchurch. Last Sunday, the Pipe Organ was played in a day of celebration to mark John Dodgshun’s outstanding 30 years of service as organist at the Church. Carolina attended the service and reported that it was an amazing community event and that the restoration of the pipes was extremely well received.
Studio Carolina Izzo is working with a team of demolition experts to safely remove the 1960s Jim Allen Mural from 61 Molesworth Street in Wellington. The building was demolished but the mural was skilfully left in situ. Carolina has been on site this week to supervise the removal and storage. For more information, go to:

It’s that time of year again when we prepare our contribution to the annual Charity Auction run by Parnell Inc.
Last year it was gilded monkeys. 2017 is the year of the Rooster. Soon you will get to see Donatello and Leonard. We can’t show them finished, however we can assure you that they are beautiful, preening, flashy roosters.
The Roosters will be 0n display in Parnell at various locations from 28 Jan – 12 Feb, before the big auction at Mossgreen-Webb’s 16 Feb 2017.

The Bishop Selwyn Chapel is located behind the apse of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell. Our task
was to gild the ceiling in three colours of gold randomly to emphasize the movement inherent in the undulating ceiling design by Fearon Hay Architects. The 320 square metres of the internal and external ceiling was gilded, centimetre by centimetre, by our team of gilders. The objective was to gild the entire surface of the ceiling (interior and exterior) with three colours of gold leaf (Yellow, Platin and Red), and apply the colours randomly.
The gold leaf used was from Florence, Italy, and beaten into leaves specifically tailor-made for for this work. The Manetti Gold Leaf factory and Studio Carolina Izzo have worked together for many years.
There were some challenges along the way, including dealing with the temperature and humidity, both factors that influence the success of gilding, and the scheduling because the adhesive for the gilding (the size) had to be applied the day before.
On Sunday 21 August the Bishop Selwyn Chapel was officially opened. The official working life of the Chapel can now begin. The ceiling gleamed with its 50,000 plus gold leaves. Studio Carolina Izzo representatives attended the opening and it was an incredibly proud day for us.
Studio Carolina Izzo Finalist – Interior Awards 2016
We have finished gilding the ceiling at the new Bishop Selwyn Chapel at Holy Trinity Cathedral. It looks beautiful and we are very happy to report that we were finalists again, for the Interior Awards 2016.
The Craftsmanship Award went to Andrew Barrie Lab & Tezuka Architects for the Cathedral Grammar Junior School – Timber Structure, and we congratulate them. We were in good company for this award.
The Awards were held at St Matthew-In-The-City and a great night was had by all.

The Manetti Gold Leaf Factory is the most famous in Italy and certainly famous around the world. The Manetti’s began their work with gold leaf manufacture and decoration in 16th-century Florence. Manetti products and expertise are used not only in restoration but also in the decoration of modern buildings and objects.
In New Zealand, at the moment, their gold leaves are being used to decorate the ceiling of the Bishop Selwyn Chapel at the Trinity Cathedral in Parnell – Auckland.
